Teen Central

Is TEEN CENTRAL and Oasis Youth Service, Inc. a christian ministry?

Yes. It is the desire that every teen comes to a personal relationship with Christ. However, we believe the best way for this to happen is by first establishing a relationship of trust and friendship through which ministry can take place.

Why does the center attract teens typically viewed as "bad" kids?

The center opens its doors to many youth who have not been taught good character and biblical morals. A large percent of the teens come from environments that do not promote healthy behavior. The center staff seek to influence these youth through positive adult role models. The center does not condone smoking, drugs, or violence and these activities are not permissible at the center. However, we realize that these things are a reality for many youth and we work at addressing the attitude behind the behavior.

Who supports the Manheim youth center and how is it funded?

By people like you who care about and are concerned about this generation of youth. Our annual fundraising dinner, a summer yard sale and other fundraisers. Businesses, and many local churches also financially support TEEN CENTRAL.

What programs does the center offer?

Our primary goal is to develop personal relationships with the youth through which positive life skills, behavior, and faith are expressed. Retreats, trips, and camps are an extention of these relationships. Discussion groups meet occassionally to talk about prevalent teen issues.

How many youth are a part of the center? How many staff are involved at the center?

Since our move to S. Wolf St. we are once again seeing a large number of teens. Since our opening in January we have seen close to 100 different teens and are seeing between 25-30 teens on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Currently, there are three part time staff. Donovan Lefever is executive director, Tina Kulp is the program director and Kristofer Bucher is the special events coordinator. The center also involves many volunteer staff persons.
