Summer 5 and 5 w/Teen Central

Summer 5 and 5 is a new program at Teen Central combining a variety of service projects and day trips on Wednesdays. Youth who participate in a service project one week will be rewarded with a day trip the following the week. Service projects may include, working with Lancaster Habitat, serving at a local church’s summer meal, serving at a local nursing home, serving at Water Street Rescue Mission, other local opportunities, and there may be an opportunity to serve in New York City. Day trips may include trips to local state parks, Philadelphia, Washington D.C, Baltimore, Gettysburg, New York City, and many more locations.
The idea for these projects is to allow teens an opportunity to serve those in their immediate community and the surrounding community. The day trips will give the teens an opportunity to leave Manheim and Lancaster County for trips that will be fun, uplifting, give them an experience that they will not have locally (like riding Metro/subway system in a large city), and put them in a fun learning environment. We also want to stretch the teens and get them out of their comfort zones by giving the opportunity to do some things they may not get to do otherwise.
Purpose: To give teens an experience that will challenge their views of the world in which they live by giving them opportunities to experience life outside of their comfort zones in Manheim and LancasterCounty.
